A rapist who slashed a woman with a knife and beat her with an iron bar following an argument about money has been jailed.

Bo Yang attacked the victim at her house in Burnley just after 23:00 BST on 15 April, Lancashire Police said.

The 41-year-old used the knife to cut her clothes, then "savagely" beat her, tied her up and sexually assaulted her before using the knife to "slash her", police said.

Yang, of Winn Grove, Sheffield, was found guilty of two counts of rape, sexual assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, robbery and possession of a bladed article following a trial at Preston Crown Court and was jailed for 18 years.

'Five-hour ordeal of terror'

Following the attack he took items from the victim's purse, including her bank cards and money and tried to transfer money into his bank account, police said.

The force said the victim managed to run from the property when Yang had his back turned and sought help from neighbours who rang the police at 03:46 BST "bringing to an end her five-hour ordeal of terror".

In a statement the victim said she suffered insomnia and nightmares, and her mental and physical health had been badly affected.

Yang was identified as a result of CCTV and forensic inquiries, including from fingerprints recovered from the tape he had placed around the victim's face.

Officers also managed to recover data from We Chat, the Chinese version of WhatsApp.

Police said as soon as Yang is deemed eligible for release by the Parole Board, he will be deported.

Following sentencing on Friday, Det Con Jodie Nolan said: "Yang is an extremely violent sexual predator who exposed his victim to a sustained and horrific ordeal.

"I would like to again thank the jury for their guilty verdicts and the investigation team for obtaining the vital evidence which helped secure this conviction."
