Police: N. Cornwall man with gun told victim he'd 'go to jail happy'

A 32-year-old North Cornwall Twp. man has been charged with allegedly threating a female victim with a firearm, according to the Lebanon County Regional Police Department.

At 2:13 a.m. on Jan. 25, police responded to the 400 block of Springwood Drive for a report of an assault. Officers spoke to the victim, who said that Matthew Cooper allegedly threatened her with a firearm.

The victim alleged that Cooper came home, grabbed her left arm and pulled her off the couch. According to court documents, Cooper then pulled the victim into the bathroom because "he wished to speak to her."

"While in the bathroom the defendant pulled a loaded Taurus G2c from his pocket and placed it to the victim's forehead stating he would go to jail happy," police said in their report.

During the incident, a witness took the victim's juvenile son into another room.

After the altercation, Cooper allegedly concealed the loaded firearm and left the residence. Police said that he concealed the fire arm on the floor under the driver's seat of a 2019 Ford Escape.

Police apprehended Cooper at the at Amcor Packaging the same day, and they allegedly retrieved the firearm from the vehicle.

"The defendant admitted the firearm belongs to him and admitted to driving with the firearm under the driver's seat in the vehicle," police said in their report.

Cooper has been charged with firearms not to be carried without a license, simple assault and harassment. A preliminary hearing is scheduled before Magisterial District Judge John Ditzler at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 5.
