A 67-year-old Essex County man died Sunday after he apparently suffered a medical episode while shoveling snow, authorities said.
The man was found around 12:45 p.m. at Beach and Martin roads in Verona, according to Police Chief Christopher Kiernan.
Kiernan said officers found the man unresponsive, lying on his back on a sidewalk with a shovel in his hand.
First responders performed CPR at the scene and the man was taken by the Verona Rescue Squad to Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, where he was pronounced dead.

Most of northern and central New Jersey received 10 to 17 inches of snow on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service reported 11.5 inches of snow fell in Cedar Grove – one town over from Verona – during Sunday’s storm.
The American Heart Association warns that snow shoveling can significantly increase the risk of heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest, especially among people who aren’t used to regular exercise or who have cardiovascular risk factors.
The exertion of lifting and throwing snow can raise heart rate and blood pressure dramatically.
