A man who led police on a 47-mile (75km) pursuit after his car was seen in a suspected drug deal has been jailed.

Ryan Moore, 20, of Carmelite Way, Salisbury, failed to stop for Wiltshire Police after officers spotted his Mercedes A Class on Avon Approach at about 23:05 GMT on 9 December.

Moore reached speeds of 120mph (193km/h), but came to a stop when he ran out of fuel near Fleet Services. He then failed a drugs wipe for cannabis and his car was found to have cloned plates.

At Salisbury Crown Court on Friday, Moore was sentenced to eight months in prison after previously pleading guilty to a number of offences, and was disqualified from driving for three years and four months.

Officers from Hampshire joined the pursuit, which saw Moore lead them through and out of Salisbury on the A30, A303 and M3, weaving in and out of traffic and, at one point, entering a stretch of roadworks.

At an earlier court date, Moore pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, not having insurance, failing to provide an evidential sample and using fraudulent registration plates.

PC Pedliham, of the Salisbury Community Policing Team, said Moore's prison term reflected the "seriousness" of his behaviour.

"For a prolonged period of time, he put the lives of other road users at serious risk by making incredibly poor decisions, driving at excess speed and dangerously in a desperate attempt to evade police," he said.
