Political strategist James Carville revealed which Democrat he believes has what it takes to win the White House in the 2028 election.

On a recent episode of the show Arroyo Grande, host Raymond Arroyo asked Carville which Democrat he could see “carrying the flag” for the party ahead of the next presidential election. On former Vice President Kamala Harris, Carville said no. On Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, he said the same. When Arroyo mentioned former U.S. Ambassador Rahm Emanuel, Carville predicted that “he’ll have an effect on the dialogue.”

That’s when Carville revealed his two factors for the ideal Democratic candidate: the ability to raise a lot money early in the campaign, and the ability to walk into a Black establishment and be greeted warmly. On the first point, he narrowed the list down to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Pennsylania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker. On the second point, just one named remained.

The conversation continued:

CARVILLE: If I had to say one guy — I really don’t know him very superficially — but if I were like betting the Kentucky Derby and I saw this 12-to-1 horse and I said, “Yeah, I want to get a price,” I’d take JB Pritzker.

ARROYO: Really? Why?

CARVILLE: Well–

ARROYO: Not Kamala Harris? She’s Black!

CARVILLE: She has no chance.

ARROYO: Why not?

CARVILLE: Because no Democrat wants anything to do with anybody that had anything to do with 2024. Not that we dislike them. This is not what we’re doing. And I don’t think there’s no enthusiasm. I mean, look, if you do a poll and you say for 2028, it’s Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, any name they heard of. Well, the person they heard of is always going to be on, but that’s meaningless.

ARROYO: That doesn’t mean anything.

Arroyo then pressed further on Carville picking Pritzker, who cited the recent controversy around his big casino winnings as an example of the billionaire being relatable to voters.

“They like him, man” Carville continued. “He campaigns hard. I bet you there’s not a Black church in South Carolina that JB’s not a part of the building fund committee.

“He’s worth $3 billion and won a million and a half dollars shooting craps and blackjack in Las Vegas! That makes people like him!”

Watch above.
