Fight outside Lakeview restaurant being investigated as possible hate crime

CHICAGO (WGN) – Chicago police are investigating an incident in Lakeview as a possible hate crime.
The incident happened at around 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
Surveillance video from The Bagel Restaurant & Deli, located in the 3100 block of North Broadway, captured what appeared to be a fight involving three people.

One of the three people involved ended up being pushed through the window of the restaurant, cutting his hand in the process.
“It was two in the morning and I didn’t even know about it. Somebody called the police. They came because we have film of them going through the restaurant, making sure nobody else was here, and then finally we were notified at about five in the morning and able to get an enclosure company to board us up,” owner Marvin Barsky said. “Hopefully with the video we have and help from the police, because there is a police report, we’ll be bale to find these people because this is just wrong.”

The person who was pushed through the window was taken to the hospital in good condition.

Part of the restaurant is now boarded up, but Barsky said they’re still open for business.
