A Dixon man was arrested for attempted murder and other charges.’

According to a release, officers with the Dixon Police Department responded to the 400 block of Crawford Ave. after a report of a man stabbed with a knife on December 28 at approximately 9:07 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found two men, the homeowner and Joseph Willwerth, 65. Officers requested assistance from Dixon City Fire paramedics to treat both for injuries. The homeowner sustained injuries to his hands, and Willwerth was transported to OSF for treatment for injuries and later released.

Willwerth was arrested on December 31 and charged with the following:

  • Attempted murder (Class X felony)

  • Home invasion (Class X felony)

  • Unlawful use of a weapon by a felon (Class 3 felony)

  • Aggravated battery (Class 3 felony)

  • Criminal trespass to residence (Class 4 felony)

  • Reckless conduct (Class 4 felony)

  • Unlawful use of weapons (Class A misdemeanor)

During the investigation, officers and detectives determined this was an isolated incident, and there was no threat to the public.
